Burlesque Costumes
Although many more of our products are suitable for burlesque wear of one kind or another, the corsets and costumes on this page are the most glamorous, the cheekiest, and the most titillating. Put all those three things together and you're already well on the way to a fabulous burlesque routine. There are very few rules about what makes a good burlesque costume but you should be comfortable and feel smoulderingly sexy.
Corsets are definitely the garment of choice for the top half of a dancer's outfit. Most of the ones we recommend for burlesque are steel boned and offer a maximum waist reduction of between four and five inches around. The steel means that they're strong and supportive, and while it may take you a little while to get used to wearing any corset, ours are cotton lined and constructed for maximum comfort.
The bottom half of a burlesque costume is usually a skirt or a pair of short ruffle pants. We quite like the ruffle pants for two reasons- one, they're easy to wear and easy to move in, and two, they have a gorgeous vintage look. They're something a bit different but which will nonetheless work perfectly on stage. You can wear a simple skirt over the top and whip it off, if you like.
Bouncy, high-volume tutu skirts are also great for burlesque dancers. They're cute but have an attitude, and they won't lie still or be pressed down flat. You can either get a separate tutu or go for a complete, all-in-one outfit. The all-in-one option saves time if costume changes need to be quick.
